Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom | Preview Thread

However, this annoyance hardly diminishes the achievement Echoes of Wisdom is shaping up to be. While the game’s story appears to be a simple inversion of the “Knight saves Princess” trope, its mechanics add astonishing depth and variety to a decades-old formula. Where Tears of the Kingdom felt like a triumphant end of an era, Echoes of Wisdom may well be an understated but confident start of something new...

right... otoh, maybe it's just one zelda game following another? you know, like link between worlds following skyward sword? or any other 2 zelda games in a row?...

fucking pompous npr...

Maybe it will be what Captain Toad is to the mainline Mario series?

Eg. the diminutive, slightly comic / cute replacement for a hero, in a scaled down and low stress adventure.

I played it for a little while yesterday. It is fun.

I am undecided on the game. I want to play it,
What do you expect from it? I’ll tell you if you'll be disappointed. If you liked the Link Adventure Remake and the crafting aspects of TotK, you’ll love it. If you just want a straightforward "swing your sword" dungeon crawler, you might be disappointed. What this game does better than any recent game—besides maybe BG3—is that if you think you can do it, you probably can. There have been multiple times where I thought, "I wonder if I use this Echo in this way, will it work?" and it does.

Nah but the full game ROM leaked a couple of days ago iirc. So it’s fully playable by non-legal means.

Jesus christ, Nintendo need to do something about their security. God knows how many ToTk sales they lost when that leaked... and now this!

Yeah, I can only assume they can’t do anything because otherwise I’m sure they would’ve.

But surely they’ll have thought about this for the “Switch 2”. Who knows what the solution will be. I just pray they don’t start with some DRM shenanigans..

Once game cartridges are in distribution, there is nothing you can do to stop someone far far away from you from grabbing a game and tossing it on the net. That time between when they have to be made and shipped and street date is the danger zone.

There's countless research done on the subject with that exact conclusion.

Try again

Here is just one example of such research

Using an outdated 2013 study as evidence is ill advised.
Significant Consumption and distribution changes since then, as well as general increase in prices.

I know a significant number of people in real life who pirate even though they can afford it, and there’s a reason why multiple companies now have launch sales secured by Denuvo, despite the PR hit.

I mean, the study says they believe there might be a positive effect on game sales after pirates play the titles. Thats like claiming a sales increase from GamePass in 2024.

Nobody here claimed Piracy cost sales 1:1. But it does have an impact.

Well they dont really do these studies that much anymore, because the answer is not in favor of the big corpo's.

In fact since 2013 there has been even less piracy.

With the increased people buying games on Steam, and Denuvo making big waves and basically stopping all crackers in their tracks.

And yes, some people who pirate games buy them later. I know I bought 4 copies of Stardew Valley, after asking the dev if I could transfer my saves from the 'demo' version to the real one, and he replied and said it shouldnt be an issue.

But thats anecdotal. But the study shows you the answer. Piracy doesnt necessarily have a negative impact on sales.

There's also huge games like Cyberpunk, Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring, launching with 0 DRM and breaking sales records.

Piracy is a service issue, like Gabe has said all along. The easier you make it to purchase a game legally, people will pirate less and less.
