Would you be interested in a Game of Thrones/ASOIAF open world The Witcher 3 style RPG based on the books/lore and not the TV show?

It's something I always thought would be cool. Game of Thrones(ASOIAF) has tremendous lore, and a rich world begging to be created in a game and fully explorable. Created a la The Witcher 3. It doesn't even have to follow the book's stories directly, it could be a fictional character that exists within the books world, as we've seen in other game adaptations before like Star Wars Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor had Cal Kestis. If done well with a good budget and by talented devs I think it could make for an awesome RPG. Not that crap Atlus one we we got over a decade ago.

Curious if anyone else would be interested in such a game.

Here you go.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an open-world action role-playing video game developed by Netmarble Neo and published by Netmarble.

Spoiler: It's a fucking mobile game!

What I would be interested in would be a semi open world game based on the Supernatural series. It would open itself up to online PvE multiplayer very easily too…

I would love it, but not in the 7 kingdoms. Essos would have a feel closer to antiquity than the more middle age Westeros, have better high(iron bank) and lows(slavery) than it too. Way better playground for a mercenary to grow and create a company there, less lore in the way if you want to create a dynasty and more magic too!
Essos would be awesome to explore in a game. I also wondered about a game that spanned many years and had time jumps so there could be an Old Valyria that we could explore and see the changes over time after The Doom.

Sure, if it was good, but id heavily prefer a big budget GOT Strategy game or an MMO by Pearl Abyss, ZeniMax Online or one of the major studios that do those type of games over a story focused RPG-lite like the Witcher or action adventure like the Respawn games.

Make the first game about the nights watch and send them north of the wall.
  • Start with a party of 6, whittle that down over the first few hours to just you, the main protag while aping fromsoft for mechanics.
  • Keep the first one focused on one character, the combat, the lore, and the gorgeous set pieces while staying out of the general "stuff" that happens south of the wall.
$profit$

Then you can make larger scale stories that happen in Westeros and have all that political intrigue stuff.

This would be a very intriguing game. I'm imagining almost a pirate-to-mercenary-to-warlord sim, that perhaps has an element of Dynasty Warriors about it. You could start out as a grunt or squire in the Golden Company or something... then quickly make your move into piracy to start your own group of bandits that eventually turns into an army. Strategy elements, combat elements, RPG elements, and sim elements.

Like this. Would play.

I would fear that unless GRRM have a Silmarillion that he hid from us the mystery of the Old Valyria and Doom are better left alone. But big time jumps would be awesome and there are many places that I would love to see in the past, like the creation of the Iron bank or some of the mercenary companies.

Great idea! I think that a GOW style would work too. Being a elite fighter that can trash untrained wildlings but struggle against bosslike others or beast. From games are great but a core idea is that you will die a lot and that would be lost in a Games of throne game in my opinion.

Multiple good ideas in here.

Just feel the time for a properly budgeted GOT game is probably gone. The zenith has passed. And let's face it, Winds of Winter is never releasing.

Not to mention the lure of valerian tech/magic scattered about. The seven kingdoms is really too rigid and 'domesticated' for a really open world IMHO. But essos is wiiiiiiide open and the little bit we see in the books/show is already crazy. Give the character greyscale as a ticking clock to drive the quest and have at it!

I'd like to see it, hopefully with a new set of characters set hundreds/thousands years before the events of the series.

But we know if it happens, they'll tell stories of all the same characters we already know.

Depends on the studio behind it.

Edit: I never got into the books but really loved the series' hype and how big it became.

They're not open-world RPGs, but I really like the Game of Thrones mods for Crusader Kings 2 and 3. They work on a huge scale across different time periods (Aegon's Conquest, Robert's Rebellion etc.) and really capture a lot of the feel of those stories. You're not running around directly swinging a sword, though there are tourneys that you can take part in. But you are doing a lot of the "big picture" stuff that the series revolves around like arranging marriages to seal alliances, hatching plots and ensuring the survival of your house from one generation to the next.

I think it would be cool to have a strategy like aspect. You being the commander of the watch. Sending out teams on missions for resources.

It could be action or turn based combat. Like Xcom. Your wall is the base. Missions are difficult and have a lot of risk and reward. Team based combat where if your characters survive they level up.

The wall is where you build and improve your gear. Can even work with and be attacked from the south.

It’s a race against a looming incoming battle. Random events happening all over the different choices like xcom for improving your characters or facilities.

This would be a concept you could do without the IP.

Anyone played this? Been in my library forever
I finished it and while the game design/combat is poor-to-mediocre, the story is a god damn masterpiece with some of the best characters in gaming. Absolutely delicious and just thinking about it kinda makes me want to replay it.

Honestly, I don't understand how no one has made a game about Faceless Men in Braavos yet. It's the perfect video game setting. You are a assassin, you can have custom background because you will become no one anyway, you can change your appearances as you like because faceless men wears different faces for missions, the gameplay can be centered around stealth and assassinations. Put a half decent team on it and you can expect a product close to Hogwarts Legacy. If a devs like CDPR is on this it could easily become GOTY material.
