When JJ Abrams took over the Star Trek films and basically tried to turn them into Star Wars movies, they also moved the Star Trek films to summer release dates...just like Star Wars in the OT and PT.

Star Trek films had always been holiday releases. They'd film them (with very low budgets) early in the year, do the effects over the summer, and then release them between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That's how it worked from The Motion Picture through Nemesis.

Paramount is releasing the new Star Trek movie on December 22, 2023:

‘Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts’ Pushed A Year; New ‘Star Trek’ Movie To Beam Up Over Christmas 2023

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will no longer be opening on June 24, 2022 rather June 9, 2023.

Didn't at least the last mainline Star Wars come out at Christmas? I don't think it's considered quite the same wasteland release date as it used to be.

I wonder just what the hell the movie is going to be. Tarantino bowed out right? I've been under the assumption that the Chris Pine Trek stuff was done for. I don't see why any of the current TV shows would make a movie.

Beyond is the best of the Kelvin universe movies. It's basically a TOS episode with a bigger budget.

They were still wearing the Season 1 TNG uniforms in the Kelvin 2379 (Nemesis era).

Given how the Mirror Universe has worked they clearly don't respect the butterfly effect. Which does annoy me a bit as a viewer and sci-fi nerd but makes sense given the whole point there was to reuse the actors. I think a Kelvin TNG movie universe with completely different characters, in principle, is a very cool concept. But the reality is if they did to that it would be used to max wokify the cast and the storylines would probably follow suit.

I remember reading something about the writers subscribing to a “living aware universe” concept that is always trying to correct temporal issues like if they were wounds, it heals over them and tries to put things back as best they can be, thus how even with all the craziness that caused the making of the kelvin timeline, the universe still steered all the characters and events towards how things were suppose to be.

It’s not happening. With the one actor dying and Chris Pine being a much bigger name now, it’s dead. It only existed e-cards of the license issues, and now that that is resolved we can get back to prime trek

First film was great the others were barely mediocre. Having the cast split apart in the other films made sense because they had already spent so much time together on the series. I dont really want or need another film, but if they have to make one they need to keep the cast together. Also please go back to a cozier design for the bridge, I dont want to see people save the galaxy in the lobby of an Apple store.

Yeah I recall something like that as well, it just never sat well with me. It's right up there with "Love is the fundamental force of the universe" that crops up all over the place.

Kinda tough looking at Yelchin in that pic. Pretty good cast overall, didn't like the trajectory of the movies though. I didn't care for Beyond even though most people think it's the most 'classic Trek' of the bunch. I only saw it the once in the theater though so maybe I'll revisit.

Reviving this corpse thread. I am still hoping there will be a Tarintino Star Trek. Can only imagine his take on Star Trek.
Not interested in next gen or any other trek series made into a movie.
Its a shame the dude that played Chekov died. That entire cast just clicked with me.
