[Rumor] Nvidia is making a new PC CPU to take on Intel, AMD, and Apple, says report

It's Arm by the way.

Nvidia is planning to take on Intel and AMD with a new CPU designed for use in consumer PCs, according to a report. The move could see the gaming GPU maker challenge the domination of Intel and AMD in the PC world, particularly when it comes to laptops and AI, but the company’s lack of an x86 license will present a challenge when it comes to this rumored Nvidia CPU running PC games and the PC’s expansive software back catalog.

This latest report comes from DigiTimes (behind a paywall), which claims that Nvidia is working on a new Arm-based CPU to directly challenge Intel and AMD, corroborating previous rumors of an Nvidia Arm PC CPU. Nvidia can already make Arm CPUs, of course. If you own a Nintendo Switch, then you already have one in the device’s Tegra chip. Nvidia’s Tegra chips have also made their way into various Android phones and tablets, but so far Windows 10 and 11 on Arm have been exclusive to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips.

i would be more interested if the made a CPU and gpu for phones to take on qualcomm
and make handheld APUs to compete with AMD Z line

I want my CPU in an add in board form factor. Like the old Pentium II/II and Athlon. This way we can fight bots over CPU releases and morons can buy the STRIX version which has 10% more performance for twice the price.

I just don't think we're close to AAA devs targeting ARM, and I don't think ARM emulation of x86 is ready for AAA games. It makes sense to try. I hope Nvidia does their own handheld.

What if Nvidia buys Intel?
I mean there was a point where Nvidia higher up before the launch of GTX 1080 Ti was discussing to buy AMD Graphic IP due to AMD was nearing bankruptcy but
Nvidia legal team said that they cannot due to USA competition laws ,however, will this competition apply on Intel CPU IP's as well if Nvidia buy it out?

Please, no more damn Big Tech acquisitions & consolidation. It's not benefiting the market.

Like, at all.

Lost interest at Arm, I've got a gaming library, not interested to get new fixes for every game or emulate them.

That isn't feasible anymore. A full size PCIe slot is 82 pins, modern LGA CPU sockets have over 1,000 pins.

Compared to Qualcomm their GPU side of things should be a solved problem in terms of compatibility, so it'll really come down to the CPU doing well. Could make for some really great handhelds.

I can already imagine the first Nvidia CPU. 20ghz boost, 1 core, at msrp of $1999. Retailers we’ll sell it for 3k.

AMD actually offers good competition in the CPU space. Qualcomm is also ramping up PC ARM. I doubt Nvidia CPUs will be that expensive. Unless they absolutely destroy a 9800x3D but I find that unlikely.

They have the money to fund the development..

They need to do something with pc graphics card pricing for folk to feel comfortable with buying from them

So if more games are ported to ARM this plays in Apple's hands since they have the best gaming hardware currently available with the new mac mini
