Rift Apart PC Requirements Revealed

Nixxes Software has just revealed the official PC system requirements for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. These PC specs cover all common resolutions (1080p, 1440p and 4K), as well as the framerate they target and their graphical settings.

These are among the best PC requirements we’ve seen, so kudos to Nixxes for detailing them. And yes, Nixxes has also included the PC specs required for running the game’s Ray Tracing effects.

For gaming at 1440p/High Settings with 60fps, Nixxes recommends an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or an AMD Radeon RX 6800. The developers also recommend using an SSD, and the game will need 16GB of total RAM for this preset.

For gaming at 4K/High Settings/Very High Ray Tracing with 60fps, Nixxes suggests using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 or an AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX. Do note that for its RT settings, Nixxes suggests using DLSS 2 or FSR 2.0.

From the looks of it, these PC system requirements for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart seem reasonable. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the game will perform on our platform. And yes, we’ll be sure to also test our Intel i9 9900K. My guess is that this CPU will be able to maintain 60fps with DLSS 3. And, if it does, it will show how transformative DLSS 3 can actually be for older PC systems.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will support NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2.0 and Intel XeSS at launch. Furthermore, the game will support Ray Tracing in order to enhance its reflections and exterior shadows.

i'm good for ultimate raytracing. might able to do 4K with more than 60fps lol.

seems pretty weak to be honest.

No SSD required... Damn. Day by day we get to see more and more clearly that PS5 SSD was just a marketing hype. Would have been better going with Gen 3 SSD and spending that extra cash on more powerful GPU.

Devs have no credibility these days, the amount of lies we had to endure from Insomniac on this topic is just unbelievable.

720p/30FPS is due to CPU/GPU, not storage. Can't wait to hear my mechanical drive going kra-ka-ka-ka as I run this at 4k 120FPS.

Yet the HDD is only found in the minimum spec. Everything else, from recommended on up, is listing an SSD.

Personally, I don't even know why you'd run an HDD today. That shit takes forever to load. Brother had his games crashing constantly until he swapped for an SSD.

It's always marketing hype. "The power of the cloud". "Most powerful console". It's almost always bullshit.

See if it runs anywhere near the same level of performance first. If the transitions between the rifts are exactly the same then yes, the marketing hype was crap.

Someone please post a Tweet from that hack Insomniac developer claiming that this game would be impossible on HDD. Thanks. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
It seems, from these requirements, that it is at least a very bad idea, which is not the same thing as impossible, but we're splitting hairs at this point.

This is the nature of PC gaming. If you want to try to run it on inadequate hardware, you can, and as long as the needed hardware functions and memory capacities are there it will run, but that doesn't mean you're gonna like playing it that way.

DirectStorage to the rescue.

DirectStorage 1.2 with GPU decompression being enacted.

Quotes from Nixxes:

To ensure a smooth dimension-hopping experience, our team implemented DirectStorage 1.2 in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC, including GPU decompression.

Richard van der Laan, Senior Lead Programmer at Nixxes Software, explains:
“To enable quick loading and instant transition between dimensions, the game needs to be able to load assets quickly. DirectStorage ensures quick loading times and GPU decompression is used at high graphics settings to stream assets in the background while playing. Traditionally, this decompression is handled by the CPU, but at a certain point there is an advantage to letting the GPU handle this, as this enables a higher bandwidth for streaming assets from storage to the graphics card. We use this to quickly load high-quality textures and environments with a high level of detail.”

Principal Programmer Alex Bartholomeus:
“For Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC we added adaptive streaming based on live measurement of the available hardware bandwidth. This allows us to tailor the texture streaming strategy for the best possible texture streaming on any configuration. With DirectStorage, the use of a fast NVMe SSD and GPU decompression, this results in very responsive texture streaming even at the highest settings.”

DirectStorage is developed to fully utilize the speed of fast PCIe NVMe SSDs, but the technology is also compatible with SATA SSDs and even traditional hard disk drives. This means Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC can use the same technology for loading data, regardless of the storage device in your system.

This doesn't change the fact that we are yet to see anything that would justify such fast SSD in Sony's machine. A more powerful GPU would have already shown its benefits. We are yet to see anything on PS5 that we haven't seen on any other console or from any other publisher/developer. For what these machines are, midrange PCs, a Gen3 3.5GB/s SSD would have been more than enough. I may be proven wrong yet, but we're heading into 4th year of these consoles soon and nothing has justified that SSD that Cerny spent and hour talking about.

I never experienced any problem with any game running from HDD. They just load slower. Rift Apart won't be any different. And all that talk that the game would be impossible on HDD / PS4 was bullshit.

Oh I'm sure the defense will be, "Impossible at the resolutions, framerates, and graphical settings we wanted".

So no more trolling about "super ssd" allowed now ? ;)

Aah incoming excuses. Are we now after all these years going to defend HDD's?

Because of what? Your not going to get the same experience AT ALL, so you will not have a Win or something over the PS5.

What marketing hype? The point of the SSD was for gameplay purposes and quality of life improvement over HDDs. Most PS5 exclusive loaded games in a few seconds.

Do you realize that having a higher end internal SSD on PS5 vs a lower end would be a difference of a couple bucks to Sony right now at this moment?

I bought 2 x Samsung 980 Pro 2TB for less than $160 yesterday (meaning each was less than $80). How much do you think MS is saving from having a 1TB Gen 3 SSD vs Sony having a 825GB Gen 4 SSD? I would bet it’s less than tree-fiddy!

Regardless, you sound like a typical hater who still don’t want to admit that PS5 objectively has a smarter overall design when it comes to value compared to Series X.
