Despite doom and gloom surrounding the console market, the PS5 is still trending around 8% ahead of the PS4 launch aligned in USA, despite its higher price point and pandemic-induced stock shortages. Given the challenges of the global economy, Sony will consider this a success.

Mat Piscatella confirmed the tidbit as part of a Q&A session on the sales-centric Install Base forum, where he added that the Xbox Series X|S is now tracking 11% behind the Xbox One in USA.

Further proof the market is fine and Xbox is the one having issues.

Xbox (and their hardcore fanbase) are great at making their problems seem like industry wide problems.

Also of note, the Series S is like half the price of the other consoles its being compared to, so the 11% down for Xbox is actually much worse in reality.

If they don't up the shipments on Xbox Series this holiday it's going to be a lot worse after Christmas.

Keep in mind that the Xbox One X released around this time in Xbox One life cycle.
They need to keep close to half of ps sales. That’s all. Let Sony have a hardware monopoly would be in their best interest for adding publishers as Sony will be trying to sell software vs other publishers on ps.

If they are finally ready for Xbox anywhere; then it would be a game changer via appropriate advertising targeting casuals.
