Yeah, reminds me of 2010 when King’s Speech won Best Director. Never mind it winning Best Picture (I mean, I thought it was a pretty good film at best, but to each their own), but the directing of the film was definitely nothing noteworthy. And this was a year where David Fincher, Christopher Nolan (who wasn’t even nominated), Darren Aronofsky, and the Coen Bros. all had films in the Best Picture nominations. Fucking amateur hour right there.

Agreed. Dune's directing was absolutely top notch - a true masterclass in film making from the first frame to the last. I suspect Dune will be getting stiffed on most of its awards on the night.

I am pretty sure the Directors Guild is the only group that can vote for the best director award. So their peers chose Kings Speech over David Fincher and Christopher Nolan.

Tried watching Power of the Dog as I'm a huge western fan and it got good reviews but I couldn't get through it. I'm not the type of person to turn a movie off either, Power of the Dog was just one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Couldn't keep my attention. Don't get what everyone was smoking when they watched it. Villeneuve was robbed not being nominated. Also find it funny that We don't talk about Bruno wasn't nominated for best song with it going to number 1 on Billboard.
