My idea: onscreen right thumb stick on handhelds

I do love an onscreen right thumb stick in Call of Duty mobile.
Yes, it's better, than a physical thumb stick (IMHO).

Why don't developers add this option in first person shooters on Switch and the other handhelds?
Because feedback of your position is nonexistent. The steam controller tried this with concentric rings but generally it isn't that well liked.

I thought we were settled for the worst take of 2024, but…

I’m not going to tear down an idea for an option, especially as lots of kids grow up with tablet controls now.

OP, do you own a Steam Deck or Steam Controller? The touch pad controls are essentially what you’re asking for without being on screen.

I personally hate touch controls for most games, bar say turn based games like card battlers or games like point n click etc. I absolutely prefer having physical feedback if I am trying to control something, especially something like a twitch shooter. Using a touch screen means blocking the screen with your fingers / thumbs and not being able to identify what you want to press by feel makes is too uncomfortable / distracting. I did try COD mobile when it was first out, on both mobile phone and tablet, and regardless of screen size, I found it to be a pretty rotten experience. Then there is the hybrid of having to use both touch and physical controls, and that has always has sucked. I remember a lot of games of the PS Vita games, for example, forcing that on you and it was awful.

Of course, if it is an optional-added control scheme for the few who prefer it over physical controls, there is no harm in that, but it might be a bit too niche for devs to add it to stuff that already has physical inputs.

I suggest it as an software option. You don't have to invent and manufacture a new gamepad.
Options are always good. I was just mentioning the Steam controller since that is essentially what you're asking for with concentric rings to help with tactile feedback of position. Generally though most people don't like the fact that there is nothing in terms of tactile position or tension.

Any control transferred to the screen immediately loses sensitivity and responsiveness. So stand in the corner, think about what you said and don't do it again. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Care to elaborate why you believe an onscreen stick is better than a physical one?

This is a good shout. As someone who’s got this bad recently…

It’s scary as fuck waking up in the middle of the night with your wrists aching so much and your hands numb.

Don’t use a fucken fake touchscreen thumb stick. It’s not worth your health. You only get one set of hands.

But the virtual thumb stick is better anyway!

Thank God, otherwise it would take 10 years to download patches...
I'm deleting it, it was always there, and while this option is enabled the game itself aims at enemies and you just shoot. It was always there, I'm honestly surprised that people still play it, considering the number of cheaters in this game who play with a mouse and keyboard =)

I have an Odin 2 and one of the greatest features is a UI dedicated to mapping mobile games touch controls to actual physical buttons and sticks. No way I would ever want to go reverse.

I think as the people that grew up only with touch screens get older this will be a much more prevailing view: for them touch will be the norm, even if it is physically less superior than stick.
You may be right.
I used to be mouse and keyboard for the longest time. It took me years to prefer controller.

Ок, I turned off the aim assist in COD mobile and played several matches.

I don't see the difference at all. I took top places in my teams.

So yes, the sensor aiming is fantastic!
