Checkpoint Gaming - Luke Mitchell - 7 / 10

LEGO Horizon Adventures offers a different take on both LEGO and Horizon as a series, with mixed results. The charm of experiencing the epic Horizon Zero Dawn story in this family-friendly brickified way is unmistakable, with strong visuals and a fully voiced cast going a long way in making things feel epic. It's a shame that the repetitive mission structure and overall short adventure stop it from becoming something truly special, not fully nailing it as either a LEGO game or a Horizon game. Still, as far as family-friendly cooperative gaming romps go, it's polished, silly and sure to generate some laughs for the more casual or younger gamers in our lives.

A fun experiment, in other words.

I think Push Square's review summed it up the best, and I believe some of the design flaws were previously feared by them.
Looks like an alright little game, buying it down the line.

I really liked the lego games back in the day, they had a great mix of fun upgrades and exploration.

Somewhere along the line, they changed their design to kind of force replaying each level multiple times to 100% them where previously, if you put some thought into it, you could find all the secrets first or maybe second time through. It became less about figuring out the secrets and just having to replay the same levels over and over to get the unlocks which was where I lost interest. I'd like to see them return a bit to the old feel.

I may pick it up on sale or watch some video to get a feel for it, hopefully it's good

I know its a LEGO game but I surprised to read that the game is not PS5 Pro Enhanced.

I thought this was a requirement for all Sony published PS5 games? I get that this is a cartoony game but it runs on Unreal Engine 5 which is typically heavy on consoles so it would be nice to get resolution and image quality boosts on the Pro over the base PS5.

Meh... my kid is excited about this one. She's never even seen Horizon, but it's got A) Lego, B) a cool looking world, and C) a neat looking main character.

Kids may not care about Horizon, but they also don't seem to care about established IPs either. They just want fun things. They're better than many of us in that way.

Some of the best looking games out there, love the combat, amazing audio/music, story is serviceable (I never care too much about stories in games anyway TBF), world design, mech design both awesome

The only negative I have is they still haven't got the climbing right.

As for merch, I don't really buy game merch, but yes, I'd definitely pick Lego mechs over Lego astro Bot (and I love Astro)

Expected the family centric/younger skewed target audience focus to inform the direction that reviews took with this title.

I had zero expectation, outside of the licenses itself, for this to resemble HZD in gameplay mechanics, tone, graphical fidelity, etc.

Also it’s not made (afaik) by TT games so I didn’t expect it to be LEGO Crime City good either..,but most of these reviews seem tone def.

I bet LEGO fans love it…at least I think the kiddos I picked this for will.
