Kadokawa Open to Sony Deal Under Certain Conditions

iu

Recent reports suggest that Kadokawa Corporation is open to being acquired by Sony, but only if the deal encompasses the entire company.

In summary, Kadokawa’s condition for a full acquisition reflects its desire for a comprehensive deal. Sony’s interest indicates a strategic move to enhance its entertainment content. The outcome of these negotiations could reshape the landscape of gaming and anime, offering new opportunities for both companies.

Sounds like a done deal then?

I guess Sony mainly wants it for the Anime segment, but it’s not like getting From Software would be negative for them. If anything it’s a huge bonus for their gaming segment.

I don't think they'll make FS games exclusive to Playstation, we'll likely see them lock out Xbox but do delayed launch for PC since it's such a big market for Souls games.
I even doubt they delay the launches for PC. Day 1 sales are critical and it’d just be silly to lock out what might be the most popular platform for From games since Elden Ring.

From games have a proven track record on PC. It would be very counterproductive to push them back.

Xbox on the other hand, yeah, they might get locked out completely. The 10% will just migrate to PS or PC for their From fix.

It seems that xbox-fans will have to change their stance on 'acquisitions and exclusive titles' sooner, rather than later :).

I didn't like buying Bethesda as now I'm unable to play them. I don't like this either. Both are understandable from business perspective

They cant actually afford to skip PC day one. Its where the majority of FromSoft sales are on PC. We have seen what happens when Sony forces devs to delay their PC releases.

I am confident that PC will still be day one, that's why im fine with it. I'd be ok either way but I just prefer playing my From games on PC. Mods are amazing!

there is info and a clip circulating online; supposedly, MS and Tencent were interested but Kodokawa wanted a with Sony...Our friends at Xbox Era were having wet dreams of MS bidding for company and leaving Sony in ridicule when MS offered money Sony couldn't afford.... like always.

it seems this acquisition could bring some positives for anime production

Big titles will for sure release on PC but they might make smaller scale exclusives for PS5. Like that VR game. That would be cool actually.

Oh, 100% I can see smaller games skip PC day one but games like armoured core, Elden ring 2 etc will not skip PC.

Something tells me for whatever reason, Sony have not been able to get the BloodBorne remaster over the line legally. This is one major reason they are interested on the gaming side. Its a tale from my ass but I feel theres something more to that whole situation.

Looks like kadokawa wants this more then sony lol.

Maybe puts sony into a more powerful negotiating postion on the price.
Wasn't the runour Kadokawa went to Sony as they didn't want a hostile takeover.

I don't want a multiplatform publisher going under a platform. Considering the timing, if it is announced it will be on the anniversary of Playstation.

What?
They own the IP and 14.09% of From.

Bethesda only sold to Microsoft because the company was experiencing financial issues, a similar situation to Bioware's when it had to sell to EA.

Of course, the difference between Sony's acquisition of Kadokawa and Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda is that Fromsoftware is still on top of its game, cracking out masterpieces every few years, versus Bethesda which peaked in 2011 but has long since declined by the time Starfield came out, which the latter was especially criticized for being derivative and lackluster, lacking the charm that their previous games like Skyrim had.

They have just as much of a proven track record if not more on PS consoles. DeS and BB are not on PC and the world has not been turned upside down. Exclusive FROM games or exclusive Elden Ring 2 would do just fine and would push a lot more PS console sales, which at the end of the day is FAR more valuable to Sony than selling a few extra million copies of a game.
