Overall, probably Mario franchise, since it historically has more great games than Zelda and with more variety. Under the Mario roof, you get some of the greatest games of all time like Galaxy, fantastic multiplayer like 3D World, and totally different spinoff experiences like Captain Toad or Luigi games. There's no real competition if you include that whole umbrella.

Zelda is at #2.

Fire Emblem is developed by Intelligent System. That studio is not owned by Nintendo, so it's a second party game.

Xenoblade Chronicles. I bought the Switch after the 10/10 BoTW reviews. That game was sorely disappointing to me. XC1,2 and 3 made the Switch purchase worth it. Day 1 for Switch 2 as my OG Switch is on its deathbed flashing overheating messages in my cold Yorkshire apartment. I do not want to lose access to my XC games.

They only made the Blade part, Xeno existed long before for Nintendo, so maybe 1 quarter of the IP, it could not be birthed by Nintendo, not even adopted, but like a stray animal that came over one day that they kept, feed and housed.

2. Metroid. Super, Prime, Zero Mission, Dread is pretty good.
3. Mario. As far as the mainline entrys go there are actually more great ones then Zelda, just even at its best (3, World, Mario 64, Galaxy, 3D World, Odyessy) I don't like it as much as the best Zelda games.
4. F-Zero I guess

Never played a single Pokemon game. Dabbled with a few Kirby games. The latest Mario Kart is probably the best one ever but I still am not a big fan of it, probably the most overrated series. I outright dislike Mario Party and Smash Brothers.

I would probably like Xenosaga, never played it. Played several Fire Emblem games but I just get bored halfway thru, storylines and characters have never gripped me. Haven't like any of the Mario RPGs (the original, Bowser inside story) but never played Paper Mario and everyone seems to say that is the best.

Yeah I'm one of those people. Nintendo is sitting on one of the best most beloved franchises, and one with a lot of potential considering it's copycats have done ridiculously well (Undertale anyone?), and they just squander it. They finally threw people a bone with digital releases in the past decade, but the franchise deserves a modern re-release with fanfare, and a big boxset or something.

Don’t care much for Zelda apart from the top down games.
Only played Metroid on SNES and Dredge on Switch. Really liked those, but it’s only 2 games. Can’t really call that my favourite.

Since Nintendo doesn't really exploit all its licenses (and I'd like to see an ambitious Kid Icarus game again), the best new IP is, in my opinion, Ring Fit Adventure.

I was expecting an ordinary fitness game, but in the end I was very surprised by the overall quality of the title. If you want to stay in shape, this is a really good find. What's more, it has a unique aesthetic style that sets it apart from other basic fitness games. I'd have liked some Nintendo-themed levels, so there's plenty of room for Ring Fit Adventure 2.

I used to think it was Zelda but the truth is I really loved the two Zelda games from the Nintendo 64 but not the next ones. Wind Waker still had some fun for me, I had to force myself to finish TP and I stopped SS after the first dungeon. On the other hand, I really liked BotW but I'm still not sure if it should have been called Zelda or if it should have been a new Nintendo IP (but it totally makes sense as a marketing approach these days).

On the other hand, Smash Bros Melee and advance wars, back in the early 2000s allowed me to discover a small, unkown in the west, tactical RPG franchise which is actually the founder of its own genre, called Fire Emblem. I didn't saw it yet on the topic and since it's a big franchise for Nintendo these days, I felt it had to be mentionned. 4 and 5 on SNES are my favorite games of all time. And while I wasn't always a big fan of all the new entries, there's definitly still some of the new titles I really loved.

Fatal Frame 4-5 was co-published with Nintendo. But it seems Koei Tecmo have buy it back from Nintendo because those two games have been ported to other consoles recently

Legend of zelda for sure. Had gotten the 3DS remakes to replay OoT and MM and loving them. 2D games also hold a lot of nostalgia, though I haven't played any of those in a while.
