You know its funny. I live in the East now since recently but raised in the west and although we have these issues popping up here and there, men and women still have their traditional roles. However, there are other issues with culture here that hurts both men and women in the patriarchy. Not sure about that. Reading has not traditionally been an attractive trait for men, more of a pastime for nerds.

However, modern women have become hopelessly addicted to reading hardcore pornography. So a man that reads is now acceptable to them as they are addicts themselves. Similar to how guys into gaming love gamer girls.

I don't think it's knowledge and intelligence they're voting for but just people reading romance novels and the like to pass time as a hobbie in much the same way. Booksmart "nerds/geeks" who acquire knowledge reading quantum mechanics books or mathematics would be getting all the women otherwise and I'm pretty sure that's not really what women find attractive when they've voted "reading". I think it's related to a shared hobby that they like and not wanting a man that's smarter. It's mostly preconceived 'virtues' when they're picking in these polls.

My anecdotes (which mean fuck all) my exes were hooked on shit like mobile games and then some on mmo's, so woman are sending some mixed signals if they don't like men playing video games but hooked on mobile games. Do they not count as gamer games or something? Granted they didn't hop from game to game or read up and discuss games at all. They either liked something, played it, and that's it or didn't like it and never brought it up. Hmmm, also it was more like a time waster pass time the more I am thinking it. So I can see if my dipshit ass was prioritizing a MP thing with friends in lieu of doing stuff with her would have pissed her off.

I will also say my one ex loved the VR we bought and used it for RE7 from start to finish and I dropped it like a week after buying it.

I might be reading a lot into it but i think most answers in the poll seem very performative, as if those questioned did not answer what they liked, but what is "good" to like in our society
We view reading, going to the theater or a concert, as enlighting activities enjoyed by the upper class (upper middle class maybe).

Well to be honest the faces of gamers on social media and streaming are mostly weak willed, soft, pussies. A lot of them aren't very manly at all. They whine about dumb and inane nonsense about games. Have lame tats and piercings. They sit there with their anime stuffed animals and anime pajamas and act like sissies. And the ones that aren't are like dr disrespect with his wig, big sunglasses giant mustache yelling a lot.

Even a lot of developers aren't very manly. Lot of progressive and liberal blue haired weaklings sporting their pride clothes have a big presence online.

So I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of women saw these people and thought gaming was un attractive. I know if those are the people I saw as a woman I'd be highly turned off.

When you are ashamed of, or hold judgement on your interests and hobby's, you'll just emit that energy and have it mirrored back to you. I feel 'you doing you' with conviction and passion is attractive to women, because that shows confidence.
Besides that, I get the impression many (younger) modern women have their guilty pleasure in the form of some mobile game, but they don't consider it 'playing videogames'. My gf certainly has her mobile game addiction, but it's less 'visible', because she can just play when I'm driving or cooking.
Also, we're living in times with a terrible dating scene, in part due to dating apps (swipe culture) and how twisted male and female roles have become, which makes dating unpleasant enough already. I feel you're not doing yourself a favor by reading too much into this.

That said, overindulging (goes for any hobby) is detrimental to yourself in the first place, and is understandably not attractive for anyone, male or female. It's about a healthy balance, which shows you care enough about yourself, which is attractive.
