From Software says ‘there’s interest’ in an Elden Ring adaptation

It sees players take on the role of one of the Tarnished, individuals whose ancestors were exiled from The Lands Between many years ago. But when the Elden Ring is shattered, they get the chance to return and conquer the land they were once banished from.

“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example,”

Miyazaki, who also directed the game, told The Guardian.

“But I don’t think myself, or From Software, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play.

“We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure.”

Sigh...

Another movie adaptation...
When that hypothetical money could go for a new game...

When will the gaming industry stop dick riding movies SO much?...

If you want Elden Ring, PLAY Elden Ring.
Is not like ER is some hidden gem/untouchable game, is THE most normie friendly game FromSoft has ever made.

It's so annoying...

Miyazaki my man, have you seen the South Park episode where Hollywood morons were relentlessly raping Indiana Jones? When the modern Hollywood imbeciles are done with Elden Ring Crystal Skull will look like a masterpiece to you

I'd be up for watching an Elden Ring show or movie, just make sure it's animated rather than live action. You can get away with so much more on animation without it looking like shit, whereas CGI in live action movies typically looks terrible.

I don't think these games make for good movie adaption. Said the same thing about the rumored Demon's Souls movie/series. Maybe some sort of Bloodborne prequel but even that would be very hard to translate. I don't think what's good about the game will get captures well in movies/series.

I feel like there's so many ways Hollywood could screw up the specific austere tone of From games. It could be good, but I feel there's a far bigger chance of messing it up beyond recognition and making a forgettable mess as usual.

It would be a fucking bleak film. No joy from levelling or beating bosses - just a slog through hell to have the main character become a lord of something and die, along with any supporting characters.

Armored Core would work much better.

Synergy between games and movies/TV shows has been a win/win recently. Fallout, Super Mario, Last of Us, Cyberpunk - all were succesful as shows/movies and also helped boost the brand/game sales.
It's like someone flipped a switch on making movies from games and the Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Brothers, Need for Speed, Tomb Raider Cradle of Life etc days are forgotten.
Whether it lasts remains to be seen.

I'd love to see the series return in modern format. But I think they locked that door and threw that key away sadly.
Luckily we have a few indies that are doing wonders for the KF style of games. Monomyth and Lunacid.
Dude, thanks, now I have new games to get. How is Lunacid? Looks like there is a bundle with Dread Delusion (a ps1 era morrowind apparently).
indie games are where it's at.
Playing songs of syx right now, but will give this a go.

Lunacid was pretty good I really enjoyed it over all, it wears King's Field on its sleeve. Maybe not as much as Monomyth, but its still there.
I would also recommend Dread Delusion. I just finished that a couple weeks ago. It has a Morrowind esq feel to its world, however the gameplay is quite a bit different.

Thanks. Yeah I picked up the bundle for both. Played a bit of Lanacid, was awesome so far. Really like the different filters psx, silent hill, vhs, etc... It definitely had a creepy kings field and ps1 type aesthetic.
The ridiculous pronouns in the character creator took me right out of the experience though. They couldn't even set the default to he or she it was like Xir or they or some weirdness. Really they should just do a gender selector or blank box if it doesn't affect gameplay. I hope the rest of the game is devoid of current day stuff as the game seems really atmospheric in game.

I don’t trust anybody to do it justice.
I don't think From is doing itself justice with how fragmented and incoherent the Elden Ring story is presented lest you go puzzle out all the pieces with Marika's family tree and still have to fill in a lot of blanks with yourself.
