Thick Thighs Save Lives
NeoGAF's Physical Games Advocate Extraordinaire
To put this insane CCU number into context, there are currently 9.1 million Steam users playing games across the entire platform - https://steamdb.info/charts/
The amount of effort that goes into Fortnite seasons is immense. They all want the reward without putting in serious time and effort. When someone wonders why every publisher keeps trying to make live service games, this is why. To get even a quarter of this success.
No one sees these types of phenomenon coming. Fortnite is now up there with Pong, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros, DOOM, Quake, Pokemon Red & Blue, Half-Life, Gran Turismo, FFVII, Tomb Raider, Halo, Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, The Sims, Minecraft, Angry Birds and Pokemon Go as one of the most important games ever made in terms of mass market mindshare.I have never been more wrong about the success of a game.
I love seeing GAF boomers seething at Fortnite.
It's really not a mystery. The success of this game is a real mystery to me.

In your (and everyone else's defense), this game(post launch) used to be just another BR game with a quirk(building). Epic did a lot of work to change it to what it is today.I have never been more wrong about the success of a game.
Not that mysterious. It's turned into a platform for brands and celebrities to engage with users, and pop culture moments are leaned into really heavily. Those brands/celebrities are happy to reach a massive audience of young people, and those people are happy to stay up to date with whatever pop culture trend is currently highlighted on the platform. Some of them feel left out if they're not in on the latest "thing", so they engage a lot.The success of this game is a real mystery to me.
Funnily enough at its original launch it used to be a single player/co-op survival/builder. And it bombed pretty hard.In your (and everyone else's defense), this game(post launch) used to be just another BR game with a quirk(building). Epic did a lot of work to change it to what it is today.
Yeah the BR mode was the last gasp of a dying game. Funny how it worked out.Funnily enough at its original launch it used to be a single player/co-op survival/builder. And it bombed pretty hard.
They managed to completely turn its fortune around when they decided at the last minute to salvage it turning it into the poor man's PUBG...
Poor man's PUBG that on the other hand ended up massively surpassing the popularity of the original despise all its shortcomings (horrendous aesthetic and art style, hideous UI, poor mechanics, poor netcode, etc).
Let’s play some Zero Build I’ll be Slim Shady you can be Goku!Funnily enough at its original launch it used to be a single player/co-op survival/builder. And it bombed pretty hard.

Half of that is subjective, but yeah. The original idea would have made a great mobile game, in hindsight. But they pivoted well, and had the foresight to turn it into something more that just another BR.Funnily enough at its original launch it used to be a single player/co-op survival/builder. And it bombed pretty hard.

This is across all platforms, though. So it turns out EGS >>> Steam just for this game

Yeah that's crazy. But he's also had like 3 or 4 posthumous albums. The last one came out yesterday with a cover designed by Takashi Murakami. Soundcloud gave us a lot of trash rappers. But some gems came out of it.Let's not overlook the fact that Juice WRLD has been dead for five years
There's more variety in games today than ever before. If I was younger with more free time I would be sad that this is such a huge thing and where the industry is going. But I’m glad, less games for me to spend money and time on.
This is the closest thing to the "metaverse" everyone had a hard on for a few years ago. I assume they're working on this, but all it needs now is just a 'walk about' mode. Sell plots of land, sell parts to build a house, decorations, etc. The moment the main form of participation is no longer shooty shooty bang bang, they might as well get a money printing press installed at Epic HQ.As soon as Fortnite implements A.I it’s over boys.
They have a lockdown on this expansive ‘everything universe’
When a.i. can create game modes and modify in real time. They can have those concerts, events dialed to 11.
I do kind of hate it too.If I was younger with more free time I would be sad that this such a huge thing and where the industry is going. But I’m glad, less games for me to spend money and time on.
