Call of Duty Mobile has ‘topped 650 million downloads’
Number of players last year almost matched total amount of console and PC users
Call of Duty Mobile has been downloaded over 650 million times, according to Activision Blizzard.
The free-to-play game was released in November 2019 and its publisher previously said it had topped 500 million downloads in May 2021.
A surge in downloads last year coincided with Call of Duty Mobile’s release in China.
In its latest annual report, Activision said Call of Duty Mobile had a record year in 2021, with consumer spending “well above” $1 billion.
“The number of people experiencing Call of Duty on mobile each month almost matched those playing on console and PC in 2021”, it said.
Activision recently announced that it is working a mobile version of free-to-play battle royale game Call of Duty Warzone, which released in March 2020 and topped 100 million players in 13 months.
Last August the company confirmed the formation of an internal mobile game development studio called Solid State, which was established to develop the new entry in the Call of Duty series.
It later confirmed that Beenox, Activision Shanghai and Digital Legends, which was acquired by Activision last year, had also been working on the new Call of Duty mobile game throughout 2021.
Activision is reportedly planning to release Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile in 2022.
Blizzard is also gearing up to deliver Diablo and Warcraft mobile games later this year.
It recently confirmed that Diablo Immortal will be released on June 2, and last week it announced Warcraft Arclight Rumble for Android and iOS devices.
